Weave knitting

Description

In weave knitting, a second yarn is put between the stitches, but not itself knitted, so that it appears similar to a float on the right side of the knit. The knitted fabric becomes less flexible. The most visible effect can be achieved if the woven yarn is significantly thicker than the main knitting yarn.

Instruction:

1

Cast on 30 needles and knit several rows. Choose a thicker yarn, push the needle on the right edge to D position and wrap this yarn around. You can put a weight on the end of the yarn (here a clothes peg)

2

Push the next needle to D position and pass the yarn under it. Push the next needle to D position and pass the yarn above it. Repeat this process until the edge and knit one row.

3

Push the first needle from the left side to D position and wrap the yarn around.

4

Then repeat the process (under - above ...) until the end. Knit one row.

5

Repeat the operation on several rows.

6

Variant #1: Wrap the contrasted yarn around the first needle, and then pass it under the next two needles, and above the next two, and so on.

7

Repeat the process : wrap around the first one, under x2, above x2, ... Knit several rows.

8

Variant #2: Wrap the contrasted yarn around the first needle, and then pass it under the next five needles and above the next one. Repeat this, it is not a problem to let the thread before the end (depending on the amount of needles we are using, here 30, we can not use all of them for the process).

9

Knit one row. Wrap the yarn around the next needle on the left, to get a diagonal pattern effect.

10

Then repeat the process to the end (5x under, 1x above, ...)

11

Knit several rows.

12

Variant #3: Wrap the contrastedyarn around the first needle, and pass it under the next 9 needles, continue above the next one, and then again under 9, above one. As for the previous example, depending on the amount of working needles, it is possible that you can't do the pattern on the whole knitted piece (it is something to consider before starting to work)

13

Knit one row. Repeat the process two other times, using the same needles as the first row to hang up the "weaving yarn". Then you see three floats ; using the decker needle you hang up them on the needle in the middle (we had 9 needles, so we use the fifth one).

14

Take care that the three floats are right in front on the needle and that the thread for the plain knitting is back (see picture : the red one is behind the three white floats) Knit two rows.

15

Repeat the process 1 - 9 - 1 - 9 - 1 by using the needles where the floats were previously hanged, as 1 above (in order not to get the floats in the same position). Do that three times and then hang up the floats on the needle in the middle.

16

Knit two rows and repeat the process.
